Eating Disorders Documentary at University of Miami National Eating Disorders Awareness Week Wednesday March 2, 2005

The new documentary The ABCs of Eating Disorders" by local Miami producers and talk on the effects of media on body image by Dr. Rosina Pellerano among the highlights of UMs NEDAW events

Miami, FL (PRWEB) March 3, 2005 -- The University of Miami will sponsor a National Eating Disorders Awareness Week event on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at 8 pm in the Whitten Learning Center, Room 190. The event will include a presentation on media impact on body image by local doctor Rosina Pellerano and The ABCs of Eating Disorders" documentary presented by Producer Joanna Popper. There will also be a joint panel discussion with Dr. Pellerano, Joanna Popper,other experts including Rullina Acra from the Renfrew Center, and people who have suffered from eating disorders and were interviewed in the ABCs" documentary.

Producer Joanna Popper says Unfortunately eating disorders are rampant on college campuses, so we welcome local efforts to raise awareness, educate and encourage recovery. We are happy to be part of a presentation that looks at the effects of media on each individual because we have seen a dangerous trend in the media regarding healthy bodies and image lately."

The ABCs of Eating Disorders" Documentary is an intimate look at eating disorders with anorexics, bulimics and compulsive overeaters sharing their lives, stories and struggles. Health professionals from the Renfrew Center and Milestones in Recovery explain eating disorders, their causes, risks, prevention and recovery.

The documentary was made to increase awareness about eating disorders and encourage recovery. It is now also available with Spanish subtitles. Individuals, treatment centers, health professionals and schools currently have been the primary audience. The documentary is available on DVD at www.abc.zakto.com

The event will be held on March 2, 2005 at 8 pm to 10 pm in the Whitten Learning Center, Room 190, at the University of Miami in Coral Gables. Food and refreshments will be served.
